Since 1954 Spalding DeDecker has been a leader in the civil engineering and surveying professions. We are an employee owned firm of 80+ professionals that specialize in surveying, land development, municipal infrastructure, transportation and construction engineering / management. Our staff consists of many Michigan Tech graduates. We are headquartered in Rochester Hills, MI and have multiple field offices where we provide our clients with civil engineering, surveying and construction engineering solutions on heavy civil, land development, municipal, transportation, aviation, and water / wastewater projects. We are looking for ambitious and self motivated Survey Crew Chiefs for full time positions that bring with them an enthusiastic attitude, as our culture rewards initiative, achievement and teamwork. Some assignments are out of town for short periods to longer durations. Candidates from any part of the Country will be considered for this position for assignments on out-of-town projects.

SUMMARY

We are a mid-sized consulting engineering and surveying firm seeking experienced crew chiefs for challenging work. Some typical projects include standard construction layout, topographical, and boundary surveys for private and public clients including contractors, municipalities, airports, and MDOT. In addition to these, we focus on complex construction layout on heavy-civil, commercial, and industrial projects on sites such as manufacturing plants.

TYPICAL DUTIES

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Operation of survey equipment

Operation of utility locating equipment

Operation of trucks and ATVs as required

Organizing and maintaining regular service of vehicles and equipment

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five to ten years of experience as a crew chief.

Extensive experience on building layout is desired. This would include: establishing precise column line control; performing anchor bolt surveys; marking proposed column and beam locations on piers and embed plates; performing crane rail surveys; layout for anchor bolts, piers, foundations, and structural steel; layout for glass and curtain wall construction; and measurements for structural steel erection including checking column plumb, pour stop locations, and other details. Must have a thorough understanding of reading and interpreting plans and details including civil, structural, and architectural plans and fabrication drawings.

General understanding of construction safety practices is required. Ability to work at heights and work from and operate aerial platforms such as boom lifts is desired. Skills with computers and technology is highly desired. Experience with robotic total stations and GPS units is required.

Job Details

Project Surveyor

Coleman Engineering Company (CEC) is currently accepting applications for a Project Surveyor
to support our new office opening in the Green Bay area. We are looking for an honest individual
with a great work ethic. This self-motivated candidate must display problem solving skills while
always looking out for the best interest of our clients. The preferred candidate will have experience
in design surveys, construction staking, boundary surveying, utility and WisDOT work.
This position involves, but is not limited to, performing field surveys, data collection, stakeout
with Trimble GPS and robotic equipment, researching public records to determine existing
property boundaries, easements and other property information. Out of town travel may be
necessary at times.
The ideal candidate will have experience with Plats of Survey, Subdivision Plat, CSM’s, ALTA /
NSPS, Legal Descriptions & Exhibits, Condominium Plats, Horizontal & Vertical Control

Surveys, GPS Surveying & Mapping, Aerial Mapping, ROW and TPP Plats, Easements,
Construction Surveying & Mapping.
Qualifications
• Ability to gain PLS license
• 3 + years’ survey experience preferred, but not required
• Associate or Bachelor Degree preferred, but not required

CAD Drafter

Coleman Engineering Company is currently accepting applications for a CAD Drafter to support
our new office opening in the Green Bay area. The primary role of this position is to support the
survey operations in all facets of drafting and mapping. The qualified candidate is required to have
a degree in CAD/Drafting Operation and/or related job experience. The candidate must have
knowledge with land surveying and mapping, be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, and have an
understanding of legal descriptions, mapping, and land/real estate terminology. The ideal candidate
will have experience in survey type drafting and preferably some survey field experience. GIS
knowledge is a plus. Candidates must have the ability to perform efficiently under demand and
stress; have the proven capability to meet tight deadlines; be detail oriented; and have good written
and verbal communication skills.

Survey Project Manager

Coleman Engineering Company (CEC) is currently accepting applications for a Professional Land
Surveyor to oversee survey operations in our new office opening in the Green Bay area. We are
looking for an honest individual with a great work ethic. This self-motivated candidate must
display problem solving skills while always looking out for the best interest of our clients. The
preferred candidate would have 5 to 10 years of survey experience.
The tasks of this position will include, but not be limited to, estimating and proposals, scoping
documents, QA/QC of final deliverables, prepping projects for field personnel, scheduling of field
crews, researching public records, property boundary/easements/road right-of-way determination.
The candidate will oversee the overall survey operation of the Green Bay office including
coordination of project estimating, scoping documents, and writing contracts for projects; establish
standards for survey and mapping practices; draft plans and record drawings; supervise survey
crew members; schedule crews and assign/oversee projects; mentor employees; research public
records to determine existing property boundaries, easements and other property information;
establish and keep open lines of communication within the office and with our other offices to
report ongoing, proposed and status updates.
Must be able to create Plats of Survey, Subdivision Plats, Certified Survey Maps, ALTA / NSPS,
Legal Descriptions & Exhibits, Condominium Plats, Horizontal & Vertical Control Surveys, GPS
Surveying & Mapping, Aerial Mapping, Construction Surveying & Mapping. The ideal candidate
will explore leads and opportunities for new survey opportunities, promote other company
services, and market for repeat business and referrals. Surveyor will also need to perform field
surveying as part of the position.
